About Sell Your Car
A neutral platform to value, sell and buy cars in the Netherlands, with prices you can check.
What is our mission?
To make selling a car fairer, for both sides. A seller should be able to see how a price is reached, and a buyer should know what they are buying. The same rules apply to dealers and private buyers.
In 2025, 2,124,429 used cars changed hands in the Netherlands (BOVAG/RDC). In many of those sales the seller doesn’t know whether the offer is fair, and the buyer has doubts about the car’s condition. So we combine an explainable valuation, an auction where everyone bids under the same rules, and free tools and guides on the 2026 rules.
How is Sell Your Car different from classifieds and instant buyers?
We are neutral: not a car buyer and not a dealer. You see three explained prices before you choose, and in our auctions verified dealers and private buyers bid against each other, with escrow for the payment.

Where does our data come from?
From public and official sources. Vehicle data comes from RDW open data, rates from the Belastingdienst (Dutch Tax Administration), market figures from BOVAG and RDC, and subsidy information from RVO.
- RDW Open DataLicence plate data: make, model, fuel, weight, APK expiry date, odometer verdict and recalls. Without the owner’s name or address.
- BelastingdienstRates and rules for road tax (MRB), BPM and rest-BPM, and the VAT rules for margin cars and VAT cars.
- BOVAG / RDCMarket figures. In 2025 a record 2,124,429 used passenger cars were sold in the Netherlands.
- RVOSubsidies such as the closed SEPP and the announced OGEA, and the road tax discount for electric cars.
- ANWBConsumer amounts such as the cost of an APK (€19 to €70) and of a pre-purchase inspection (€150 to €350).
How does our editorial team work?
We check every amount and rule at the source, and every article gets a date, so you know how current the information is.
- We check amounts and rules at the source: RDW, Belastingdienst, RVO, BOVAG and ANWB.
- Every article, guide and glossary term shows the date it was last updated.
- Sources are listed under every article, so you can check everything yourself.
- We don’t use figures we cannot verify with a reliable source.
- We write neutrally: we never promise a price and compare providers on facts.
- Rules that do not apply yet, such as an announced subsidy, are labelled as such.
