What makes an ad work?

  • 12 photos in daylight: front and rear at an angle, both sides, front, rear, dashboard, instruments with the engine running, front seats, rear seats, boot and every bit of damage close up.
  • Honest defects: mention damage, warning lights and upcoming maintenance. It prevents trouble after the sale.
  • Realistic price: based on our car valuation, with a little room to negotiate.
  • APK date and service history: state the APK date and have invoices and the RDW vehicle report ready.
  • Sell safely: never send a photo of the registration card or code, and always ride along on a test drive. See the scam check.
  • Check your ad: the listing score shows what is still missing.

What goes in the title of a car ad?

Make, model, version, year, mileage and fuel. That is what buyers search for, and it shows at a glance whether the car fits. Leave out words like "nice" or "top": they say nothing and take up space. The businesslike version separates the details with bars; the personal version reads as a sentence.

Should you mention defects in your ad?

Yes. As a private seller you may not conceal known defects; otherwise the buyer may later try to undo the sale. An honest list in the ad saves arguments at the viewing, and you can copy it straight into the sale contract. Read more in get your car ready to sell.

Businesslike or personal: which tone works better?

Both, for a different audience. A businesslike text with a spec list is quick to scan and works well on large listing sites. A personal text explains why you are selling and how you treated the car, which builds trust with private buyers. Choose what suits you and feel free to edit the text afterwards.

Part Businesslike Personal
Title Details separated by bars Short sentence
Specifications List Woven into the text
Defects "Known defects: …" "To be upfront: …"
Closing Viewings by appointment Invitation to a test drive

Why an English version?

Many expats in the Netherlands look for a used car and prefer to read in English. An English version below your Dutch text widens your pool of buyers at no extra effort. The generator writes both at once.

Which price should you put in your ad?

A price that fits the market, with a little room to negotiate. Set it with our car valuation, then use the listing score to see what your ad still lacks.

Frequently asked questions

How many photos should my car ad have?

12 is a good number: front and rear at an angle, both sides, front and rear, dashboard, instruments with the engine running, front seats, rear seats, boot and every bit of damage close up. Photograph the clean car in daylight against a calm background, ideally on an overcast day.

Can I edit the generated text?

Yes, please do. The generator gives you an honest base with all the key details. Add what makes your car special, such as recent maintenance or new tyres, and check that everything is correct before you post the ad.

Should I show the plate in my ad?

You may, and it builds trust: buyers can then check the RDW data, APK date and odometer verdict themselves. Never share a photo of the registration card or the registration code; with those, someone can put the car in their name.

Should I give a reason for selling?

No, you do not have to, but buyers often ask. A short honest reason, such as a new car or a move, reassures them. If you would rather not say, choose "prefer not to say" and the generator leaves the sentence out.
