Median per year. New price: what the car cost new in the Netherlands, the RDW catalogue price (incl. VAT, BPM and factory options, without delivery costs). For cars imported used: the Dutch catalogue price of that version. Value kept: asking price divided by the car’s own new price. Drop per year: value kept against the next newer year; a plus means that year asks relatively more. Older cars have more miles, which is part of the drop. * Fewer than 5 cars: indicative only. Asking prices, not sale prices.

Who buys a used Toyota RAV4?

The RAV4 is the largest Toyota SUV that sells in numbers in the Netherlands. Since the fifth generation (2019) it has been hybrid or plug-in only, which makes it popular with families and caravan owners: roomy, frugal for its size and, with AWD-i four-wheel drive, a strong tow car. The plug-in hybrid is powerful and covers a good distance on electricity.

The RAV4 holds its value very well. Buyers look at four-wheel drive, tow bar, maximum towing weight and trim. Unfortunately the RAV4 is popular with car thieves, so both keys and extra security count. If you have a tow bar, plan your sale for spring, and use the net proceeds tool to see what each sales channel leaves you with.

FAQ about the Toyota RAV4

Is the RAV4 Hybrid a good caravan tow car?

Yes, for most caravans. The AWD versions have a higher towing capacity than the front-wheel-drive version. Check the exact figure in the RDW data with the plate check.

Does a RAV4 plug-in still pay less road tax?

No. Since 1 January 2026, plug-in hybrids pay the full tariff, based on their full weight. A RAV4 plug-in is heavy, so road tax is substantial. Calculate it with the road tax tool.

Why is the RAV4 stolen so often?

Because it is valuable and parts and complete cars are in demand abroad. Extra security and a tracking system lower the risk. Mention them, because buyers and insurers ask.
