What should you know when selling a Toyota?

In the Netherlands, Toyota is the hybrid brand. Since the Prius and later the Yaris, Auris, Corolla and C-HR, hundreds of thousands of Toyota hybrids are on the road, and they are highly sought after as used cars: they are frugal, the automatic is standard and the technology has a reputation for reliability. The Aygo is also one of the most popular small city cars, with 34,797 used sales in 2025.

Toyotas hold their value well. A strong selling point is the Toyota Relax warranty: if the car is serviced every year at a Toyota dealer, Toyota extends the warranty, up to a maximum age and mileage. The warranty belongs to the car and so passes to the next owner. When selling, a complete service book, the hybrid battery and the trim count. Start with a free valuation by registration number.

How well does a Toyota hold its value?

Toyotas are among the best at holding value in the Netherlands, especially the hybrids. A Yaris or Corolla hybrid with dealer servicing loses noticeably less value than the segment average.

What do buyers look for in a Toyota?

Strengths

  • Known for reliable hybrid technology with a standard automatic
  • Toyota Relax warranty that passes to the next owner
  • The Aygo and Yaris are among the most traded used cars in the Netherlands
  • Low maintenance costs and frugal in town

What buyers check

  • Catalytic converter theft on older hybrids (Prius, Auris)
  • Hybrid: the e-CVT revs high at full throttle; that is normal
  • Older Yaris and Aygo: rust and clutch wear
  • RAV4 and C-HR: popular with thieves; ask about security and keys

Tips for the best price

  • Ask the Toyota dealer for a service overview and your Toyota Relax status
  • State in your ad how far Relax warranty extends at the next service
  • Have a hybrid check done on an older hybrid; it reassures buyers
  • Selling privately pays off given the strong demand for Toyota hybrids

FAQ about selling a Toyota

Does Toyota Relax warranty transfer to the new owner?

Yes. Toyota Relax belongs to the car. If the new owner has it serviced every year at a Toyota dealer, the warranty is extended each time, up to Toyota’s maximum age and mileage. Ask the dealer for the conditions and mention them in your ad.

Does a Toyota hybrid battery last long?

Usually. Many Toyota hybrids run well past 200,000 km on the original battery. A hybrid check at the dealer shows the battery’s condition. Buyers often ask about it, so a recent report helps you sell.

Which Toyota is most in demand as a used car?

The Aygo and the Yaris. In 2025, 34,797 Aygos and 34,112 Yarises were sold used (BOVAG/RDC). The Yaris Hybrid is popular with commuters and older drivers, the Aygo with first-time buyers.

Is a Toyota hybrid expensive in road tax?

No. A regular hybrid pays the same road tax as a petrol car of the same weight, and most Toyota hybrids are relatively light. Work out the exact amount with the road tax tool.
