How is the listing score calculated?
We look at seven parts that buyers weigh most, based on ANWB advice and our experience. Together they are worth 100 points. It is a rule of thumb to improve your ad, not a prediction of the sale price or speed.
| Part | Max. points | Full marks when |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | 25 | 12 or more |
| Text | 15 | about 120 words or more |
| Price against our value | 20 | at or below our value, but not extremely low |
| Service history | 10 | fully documented |
| APK | 10 | valid for more than 6 months |
| Inspection report | 10 | report included with the ad |
| Response time | 10 | within an hour |
Why do photos weigh so much?
Because buyers look first and read later. With 12 photos in daylight you show the whole car, including damage. That saves questions and surprises at the viewing. The order is in get your car ready to sell.
Is a low price always good for your score?
No. A price at or just below our value scores highest. A price far below market raises suspicion, because scammers with cloned listings use low prices. Set your price with our car valuation.
Is an inspection worth it as a seller?
Often, yes. A report with your ad builds trust and can speed up the sale. According to the ANWB an inspection costs €150 to €350. Buyers do read such a report critically: they check the date and who chose the inspector. See inspections and inspectors.
How do you improve your ad quickly?
Start with the top improvement, because it adds the most points. You can write the text in a minute with the ad text generator. If your APK expires soon, decide deliberately: an APK costs €19 to €70 plus any repairs.
Frequently asked questions
Does the score predict how fast my car sells?
No. The score is a rule of thumb that shows what buyers value and where your ad falls short. How fast a car sells also depends on the model, the season and demand in your area. A higher score does make your ad more complete and trustworthy.
Should I get a new APK before selling?
No, it is not required. A fresh APK does make the car more attractive, and the test costs €19 to €70 according to the ANWB. The risk lies in the repairs it may turn up. If you expect high costs, sell without a new APK and reflect the expiry date in your price.
How many words should my ad text have?
Around 120 is enough for all the key details: specs, options, maintenance, APK, reason for selling and honest defects. Longer is fine as long as it stays readable. Use short sentences or a list so buyers quickly find what they are looking for.
