Dagwaarde (literally "day value") is your car's current market value: the amount a comparable car changes hands for today. Age, mileage, service history, damage, specification, fuel type and demand for the model together determine it. It usually drops a little every month, most steeply in the first years.
Insurers use the term too. After a total loss or theft, an insurer usually pays out the dagwaarde once any new-value or purchase-value period in your policy has ended. Check your policy terms to see how long that period lasts.
Why it matters when buying or selling
The dagwaarde is an average. What you actually get depends on how you sell. A dealer usually offers less when you trade in (the trade-in value, inruilwaarde); a private buyer often pays more, but that costs you more time. As a buyer, the dagwaarde helps you judge an asking price. Get a well-founded estimate with our free valuation and compare what you net per sales channel with the net proceeds calculator.
