Kentekenloket (registration counter)

Updated All terms from A to Z

A kentekenloket is a physical counter where you can handle registration matters without a computer. You'll find them at PostNL branches and at (car) businesses affiliated with Kentekenloket BV. You can also go to the RDW desks in Veendam and Zoetermeer or to an RDW inspection station. At the counter you can transfer a vehicle, suspend a registration and end a suspension. A transfer costs the same as online: €13.10 in 2026.

Why it matters when buying or selling

The counter is a good option when an online transfer isn't possible: for example, when the buyer doesn't have the DigiD app with ID check, or when the car still has an old paper registration certificate, which can only be transferred at a counter or desk. Ideally, go together with the buyer. Bring the kentekencard, the complete tenaamstellingscode (registration code) and the buyer's valid ID. At the counter the buyer receives the transfer report and the vrijwaringsbewijs (indemnity certificate), and should hand the latter straight to the seller. Read our step-by-step transfer guide beforehand and check the transfer costs.
