Fixed costs of your home connection are not allocated: at home we use the marginal price per kWh. Fixed yearly costs according to CBS (2026-09): fixed supply €115.23, transport €476.87, minus energy-tax reduction €628.96. Subscription fees of charge cards and networks are not included either.

Prices and sources

What does charging at home cost?

At home we use the marginal price per kWh: the variable supply tariff of a variable-price contract (€0.149) plus energy tax (€0.111), together €0.260 per kWh including VAT. These are the CBS averages for 2026-09 (provisional). CBS publishes no single all-in price per kWh; this sum is our derivation from two CBS figures.

We do not include fixed costs, because you pay them with or without a car: fixed supply €115.23, grid transport €476.87, minus the energy-tax reduction of €628.96 per year. With a dynamic contract or solar panels, enter your own price per kWh.

What does fast charging cost?

Fast charging costs more than home charging. Prices of three networks in the Netherlands, per kWh including VAT, as they show them on their own pages:

Network Plan Price per kWh Monthly fee Retrieved
Fastned standard (pay per session) €0.770 none 26 October 2026
Fastned Gold Member €0.540 €5.99 per month 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY Direct (no app, no subscription) €0.760 none 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY App (no subscription) €0.720 none 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY Motion 365 (monthly) €0.540 €5.99 per month 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY Power 365 (monthly) €0.430 €11.99 per month 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY Motion 365 (annual) €0.560 none 26 October 2026
IONITY IONITY Power 365 (annual) €0.450 none 26 October 2026
Allego Pay as you go, Ultrafast up to 400 kW €0.790 none 26 October 2026
Allego Allego Smart (free in app), Ultrafast €0.690 none 26 October 2026
Allego Allego Plus, Ultrafast €0.490 €9.99 per month 26 October 2026

IONITY shows the direct price as ‘currently from’; at a station it can be higher. Fastned shows a promotional subscription price (Gold Member) up to and including 31 October 2026. The ANWB gives a range of €0.650 to €0.900 per kWh for fast-charging providers. We could not retrieve prices for Tesla Superchargers (for other brands) and Shell Recharge, so we do not list them; enter those yourself.

What does public AC charging cost?

Ordinary public charge points (AC) are cheaper than fast chargers, but the price varies a lot by charge point and provider:

Provider Price per kWh (range) Retrieved
Allego: Pay as you go, Regular up to 22 kW €0.440 – €0.620 26 October 2026
Allego: Allego Smart, Regular up to 22 kW €0.440 – €0.590 26 October 2026
Allego: Allego Plus, Regular up to 22 kW €0.440 – €0.490 26 October 2026
various (ANWB overview) €0.400 – €0.600 26 October 2026

The calculator fills in the midpoint of the chosen range; that is a derived figure, not a measured price. Adjust it to the charge card or point you use.

How much does an electric car cost per 100 km?

Consumption × price per kWh. Example with three consumptions (examples, not facts) at the home price and at Fastned’s standard price:

Consumption Home Fastned standard
14 kWh €3.63 €10.78
17 kWh €4.41 €13.09
20 kWh €5.19 €15.40

The WLTP consumption in a price list is a test value and can differ from your everyday consumption; the average on your trip computer is a better input. Pick a new car above to fill in the WLTP consumption, then adjust it.

Is driving electric cheaper than petrol?

It depends on where you charge and which car you compare with. At 17 kWh/100 km and the CBS petrol price of €2.391 per litre (19 October 2026), this is the average electricity price at which electric costs the same as petrol:

Petrol car Petrol per 100 km Break-even price per kWh
5 l/100 km €11.96 €0.703
6 l/100 km €14.35 €0.844
7 l/100 km €16.74 €0.985
8 l/100 km €19.13 €1.125

If you mostly charge at home you are well below those prices. If you mostly fast-charge, an economical petrol car can be cheaper. The calculator compares your split with your petrol consumption. See also fuel costs, EV vs petrol and the bijtelling of an electric company car.

Frequently asked questions

What does a kWh cost at home in 2026?

According to CBS (2026-09, provisional) you pay on average €0.149 variable supply tariff plus €0.111 energy tax, together €0.260 per kWh including VAT. Fixed costs come on top per year.

Why is fast charging dearer than charging at home?

At a fast charger you pay for the expensive installation, the power and the location. At Fastned the standard price is €0.770 per kWh, more than twice the home price of €0.260. A subscription lowers the price per kWh, but you pay a monthly fee.

Which consumption should I enter?

The consumption your car really uses, in kWh per 100 km, which you can read off the trip computer. The WLTP figure in the price list is a test value and can differ from what you measure.

Does the calculator include fixed costs or subscriptions?

No. At home we use the marginal price per kWh and the fixed yearly costs of your connection are not allocated. Subscriptions of charge cards or networks (for example a monthly fee) are not included either; the fees are shown in the dropdown.

Is driving electric cheaper than petrol?

Usually yes if you charge at home a lot: 17 kWh/100 km costs €4.41 per 100 km at home, equal to 1.8 litres of petrol. With fast charging only, the gap is much smaller and an economical petrol car can win. Enter your split and petrol consumption in the tool.
