Beperkt casco is also called WA+ or WA casco. It covers everything third-party insurance covers, plus damage to your own car that you did not cause yourself. According to the ANWB this includes:
- theft or attempted theft;
- fire;
- window and windscreen damage;
- storm and hail damage;
- a collision with a loose animal.
Damage you cause yourself, such as hitting a pole, is not covered. For that you need fully comprehensive cover. Exact cover differs per insurer, so read the policy conditions.
Why it matters when buying or selling
Limited comprehensive cover is often a sensible choice for a used car that still has some value, but for which allrisk has become too expensive. Look at the car's current market value (dagwaarde): after theft or a total loss, that value is often the starting point for the payout. As a buyer, get an insurance quote before you buy so you know the total cost. As a seller, you cancel your policy with the vrijwaringsbewijs (indemnity certificate) you receive after the transfer.
