What do you need?
- A dealer account at Sell Your Car
- Your KVK number, VAT number and RDW company stock recognition for the verification

- A business bank account to pay the seller
What does it cost?
No fixed costs
Total time: 4 days
Step 1: Get your business verified
At Sell Your Car only verified dealers can bid; no private persons take part. We check your KVK registration, your VAT number and your RDW company stock recognition, so the seller knows every bid comes from a real car business. See what you need on for dealers.
Step 2: Receive an invitation
When a seller asks for bids, we invite a number of verified dealers. The invitation shows the car by its plate with the RDW data and the odometer verdict, the mileage, the seller's description and the deadline for your bid. You do not see the seller's name or phone number yet: you get those only when the seller accepts your bid.
Step 3: Study the car details
Read the seller's description and look at the RDW data and the odometer verdict. You have not seen the car yourself yet, and the description is not an inspection. Check the RDW data with the licence plate check and go through the inspection checklist. Learn more about inspections on pre-purchase inspection. Let any doubts count in the amount you bid.
Step 4: Set your limit
Decide in advance what the car is worth to you with the fair price check and the valuation tool. Factor in preparing the car for sale, any repairs and your margin. Your bid is the amount the seller receives: nothing is taken off and nothing is added. Write down your maximum and stick to it.
Step 5: Place one sealed bid before the deadline
You place one sealed bid. Other dealers do not see your amount and you do not see theirs; there is no automatic bidding and no extension. Until the deadline you can raise or withdraw your bid, but not lower it. A bid that arrives after the deadline does not count: our server time decides.
Step 6: The seller chooses
After the deadline the seller sees all bids, without the dealers' names. The seller chooses one and accepts it, or accepts none; a seller is never obliged to sell. If the seller set a minimum price, you do not see that amount. Either way you get an email.
Step 7: Get in touch and pay directly
If the seller accepts your bid, you both get each other's contact details and arrange the handover together. You pay the seller directly by bank transfer, into an account in the seller's name; Sell Your Car never handles the money. Since 1 January 2026 dealers may not pay €3,000 or more in cash: see paying cash for a car.
Step 8: Put the sale in writing and transfer it together
Record what you agreed in a sale contract and transfer the car together at the RDW, into your company stock: see transfer car ownership. The seller hands over the keys and papers once the money is in their account, and receives the indemnity certificate.
Tips
- Bid your real price straight away: you do not see other bids, and you can raise your bid later but not lower it.
- Bid well before the deadline; a bid that arrives late does not count.
- Read the seller's description with care and let any doubts count in your bid.
- After acceptance, contact the seller quickly and arrange the handover.
Frequently asked questions
Can other dealers see my bid?
No. Every bid is a sealed bid: only the seller sees the amounts, and only after the deadline. You do not see other dealers' bids, not even afterwards. You only hear whether the seller accepts your bid.
Can I change my bid?
Until the deadline you can raise or withdraw your bid, but not lower it. After the deadline your bid stands until the seller has chosen or until your bid has expired.
What if the seller accepts no bid?
Then there is no sale and you pay nothing. The seller is never obliged to accept a bid, not even the highest. You do not see a seller's minimum price; if your bid stays below it, the seller is unlikely to accept it.
What does bidding cost?
There is no fee for the seller: they receive the full amount of the accepted bid directly from you. For you as a dealer, bidding and an accepted bid cost nothing either: we charge nothing per car.
When do I get the seller's details?
As soon as the seller accepts your bid. Then you both get each other's contact details. Until that moment you see the car, but not the seller's name or phone number.
