Median per year. New price: what the car cost new in the Netherlands, the RDW catalogue price (incl. VAT, BPM and factory options, without delivery costs). For cars imported used: the Dutch catalogue price of that version. Value kept: asking price divided by the car’s own new price. Drop per year: value kept against the next newer year; a plus means that year asks relatively more. Older cars have more miles, which is part of the drop. * Fewer than 5 cars: indicative only. Asking prices, not sale prices.
In the Netherlands, the X3 is the BMW for caravanners and families who want both space and all-wheel drive. An F25 or G01 xDrive20d with a tow bar is a sought-after tow car, and the G01 xDrive30e is reaching the market in numbers as an ex-lease car. Buyers are often experienced BMW drivers moving over from a 3 Series Touring, and business owners who need a smart car that can tow.
Package, drivetrain and tow bar set the price. M Sport or xLine, panoramic roof, head-up display, Harman Kardon, an electric tow bar and adaptive LED headlights make an X3 more appealing. On an E83 or F25, buyers ask about the xDrive transfer case, whose actuator motor can fail, and on the 20d up to about 2014 about the N47 chain. An E83 diesel is often Euro 4 and barred from the milieuzones (low-emission zones) in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem; check with the low-emission zone check. On the iX3 and xDrive30e, battery condition counts. Start with a free valuation.
| Generation | Years | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| E832004–2010 | 2004–2010 | The first X3; the 2.0d and 3.0d are often Euro 4, so check low-emission zones. |
| F252010–2017 | 2010–2017 | Roomier and more comfortable; the xDrive20d is the classic caravan tow car. |
| G012017–2024 | 2017–2024 | xDrive20d, xDrive30e plug-in and the rear-wheel-drive electric iX3. |
| G452024–present | 2024–present | New generation including the 20 xDrive and the 30e xDrive plug-in. |

It differs by engine and generation, and it is registered with the RDW against your registration number. Look it up with the registration check and put the braked towing capacity in your ad. Caravanners filter on it, and an X3 with a tow bar and a high towing capacity attracts exactly the buyers willing to pay more.
Only if it is Euro 5 or newer. An E83 2.0d or 3.0d is often Euro 4 and then may not enter Amsterdam, Utrecht or Arnhem; The Hague bars Euro 3 and older. The fine is €130. An F25 or G01 is Euro 5 or 6. Check with the low-emission zone check and mention it in your ad.
Yes, if you document the battery well. Buyers want to see an SoH report and know how fast the car charges. The G01 iX3 is rear-wheel drive and is not the heavy tow car the xDrive20d is, so it appeals mainly to families and commuters. In 2026 an EV pays 70% of the normal MRB road tax rate.
