What should you know when selling a Škoda?

Škoda is the brand for people who want lots of space for little money. Part of the Volkswagen Group, it shares engines and technology with Volkswagen, Seat and Audi, but is roomier and often cheaper. The Octavia Combi is one of the most popular company estates in the Netherlands, the Fabia is a roomy small car, the Citigo a sought-after city car (also electric), and the Karoq and Kodiaq are the SUVs, the Kodiaq also with seven seats.

Buyers know the clever details ("Simply Clever"): an ice scraper in the fuel flap, an umbrella under the seat. When buying, they check the same points as on a Volkswagen: the DSG automatic, the TSI engines and the servicing. Many Škodas come off lease with high mileage but full history. Start with a free valuation by registration number.

How well does a Škoda hold its value?

Škodas hold their value well, especially the Octavia Combi and Kodiaq. With so many ex-lease cars, the price does need to be sharp.

FAQ about selling a Škoda

Is a Škoda technically the same as a Volkswagen?

Largely. Škoda uses the same platforms, engines and gearboxes as Volkswagen, Seat and Audi. Interior, space and equipment differ. Known issues such as the DSG and older TSI engines apply to Škoda too.

Which Škoda is most in demand?

The Octavia Combi, followed by the Fabia and the Kodiaq. The Octavia Combi is popular with families and business drivers, the Kodiaq with large families and caravan owners.

Does my Škoda’s DSG need servicing?

Yes, on the wet DSG (six and seven speeds with wet clutches) the oil must be changed on schedule. An invoice reassures buyers. A DSG that judders or throws faults costs you significantly when selling.

Does a high-mileage ex-lease Škoda still sell?

Yes. Octavias with 200,000 km and full dealer history still find buyers, including traders and exporters. An auction with dealers and private buyers quickly shows a fair value.
