The E-Class is the classic big Mercedes: comfortable, roomy and built for high mileage. In the Netherlands it is widely used as a taxi and company car, especially as an Estate. So there are very high-mileage examples, but also well-maintained one-owner cars. Buyers are business drivers, families, caravan owners and taxi firms.
The E 220 d is the best-known version: economical for its size and a strong tow car. The plug-ins (E 300 e and the diesel plug-in E 300 de) were popular in lease fleets, but since 2026 pay full road tax on their high weight. Buyers look at service history, air suspension, emission class and equipment. An auction with dealers and private buyers works well for high-mileage E-Classes; compare the net proceeds per channel.

Yes, if you charge it regularly: short trips run on electricity and long trips are frugal on diesel. Since 2026 it pays full road tax, including the diesel surcharge, on its high weight.
Most W212 diesels are Euro 5 or higher and can enter Amsterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem in 2026. Older W211s may be Euro 4. Check by registration number with the low-emission zone check.
