Median per year. New price: what the car cost new in the Netherlands, the RDW catalogue price (incl. VAT, BPM and factory options, without delivery costs). For cars imported used: the Dutch catalogue price of that version. Value kept: asking price divided by the car’s own new price. Drop per year: value kept against the next newer year; a plus means that year asks relatively more. Older cars have more miles, which is part of the drop. * Fewer than 5 cars: indicative only. Asking prices, not sale prices.
The V40 is Volvo’s compact premium car, built from 2012 to 2019. It was the first car with a pedestrian airbag and is popular used with couples and older drivers after a comfortable, safe, compact car. The D2 diesel was popular in lease fleets for its low CO2; the T2 and T3 petrol engines are now most in demand.
As no successor arrived, demand for good examples remains. Price depends on engine, mileage and trim: a T3 with automatic, R-Design or Inscription kit and a panoramic roof fetches more. Buyers ask about servicing and the automatic. The rear seat and boot are tight, though. Look at similar used cars before setting your price.

Volvo ended the V40 in 2019 to focus on SUVs such as the XC40. No direct successor followed, so good V40s remain popular with people after a compact, low Volvo.
The T3 petrol engine, especially with an automatic. The D2 is frugal but pays more road tax and is less popular with low-mileage buyers.
No. It is a V40 with slightly more ground clearance, plastic wheel-arch trims and a rugged look. It usually has front-wheel drive.
