Median per year. New price: what the car cost new in the Netherlands, the RDW catalogue price (incl. VAT, BPM and factory options, without delivery costs). For cars imported used: the Dutch catalogue price of that version. Value kept: asking price divided by the car’s own new price. Drop per year: value kept against the next newer year; a plus means that year asks relatively more. Older cars have more miles, which is part of the drop. * Fewer than 5 cars: indicative only. Asking prices, not sale prices.
The XC40 was Car of the Year 2018 and is one of the most popular premium SUVs in the Netherlands. It is compact, comfortable and cleverly laid out, with lots of storage. Buyers are couples, small families and older drivers after a high seat, safety and a premium feel. It comes as petrol (T3, T4, B3, B4), as a plug-in (T4/T5 Recharge) and fully electric (P6/P8, later EX40).
Price depends on drivetrain, trim and options. R-Design, Inscription and Plus with Harman Kardon audio, panoramic roof and Pilot Assist are most in demand. With the electric version, buyers check battery health and range; with the plug-in, the charging cable and road tax on the full weight since 2026. Read how to check an EV battery.

Yes, to buyers who charge at home and want a premium EV. Battery health and range set the price. In 2026 an EV pays 70% of normal road tax.
Both are plug-in hybrids with the same battery. The T5 is more powerful. In practice they cover a similar electric distance.
For light to medium caravans. Towing capacity varies by engine; electric and plug-in versions often tow less. Look it up with the plate check.
